Mark Murphy

Mr. Murphy served as Innkeepers USA Trust's Vice President and General Counsel for 14 years, and helped steer Innkeepers through its $47 million IPO in 1994, $1.8 billion going private transaction in 2007 and restructuring/bankruptcy in 2009-2011. Throughout his tenure with Innkeepers, he was integrally involved in all key activities, including: hotel acquisitions, dispositions and development, franchise agreement negotiations, financing and capital market transactions, asset management, and SEC reporting. Mr. Murphy assumed a primary operating role in Innkeepers' efforts to restructure its operations beginning in 2008, including initiatives to enhance revenue, maximize operating expense efficiencies and rationalize capital expenditures. He also served as a key advisor to the Chief Restructuring Officer throughout Innkeepers' bankruptcy process, helping to plan and execute strategy and oversee financial advisory, legal and other professionals in a complex case involving over 70 hotels, nine secured loans (including several securitized loans) held by multiple lenders, several franchise partners, and a class of preferred shares.

Prior to Innkeepers, Mr. Murphy was employed for nine years by the Hunton & Williams law firm as an associate and partner. He helped to build Hunton & Williams' nationally prominent real estate investment trust practice, developing a specialty in hotels and working with many hotel enterprises that became public companies. Mr. Murphy graduated from LeMoyne College (Syracuse, NY) and Washington & Lee University School of Law, and is a licensed attorney in Virginia.
